As I mentioned yesterday, Clark and I played “high low” on our sunrise date Sunday morning. What I didn’t mention was that my high for the weekend was hands down, THE FOOD! It wasn’t even the food at the wedding reception…. although who could refuse whoopie pie? No, my little sister has taken to preparing gourmet masterpieces, and we were the subjects of her culinary benevolence  I almost cried in my salad it was so good and I hadn’t even tested the main course. I was speechless by dessert. It was a mealtime epic drama. Here is the bread recipe just for starters:

Gina’s Cheddar and Herb Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons freshly chopped chives
  • 1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley leaves
  • 3/4 cup grated sharp yellow Cheddar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cayenne together using a whisk. Add the herbscheese and buttermilk. Stir together until dough forms. Once dough has formed, using an ice cream scooper, scoop out dough onto baking tray. With a brush, lightly butter tops. Bake for 15 minutes.

Who is this Gina? She is Gina Neely of Pat and Gina Neely, co-owners of Neely’s bar-b-que, one of the most successful bar-b-que restaurants in the south as featured on the Food Network. You can read their full bio here. It is truly inspiring. I love finding stories about couples who realize success when they combine their passions and mutual interests. If you live anywhere near Nashville or Memphis, perhaps you might pay them a visit at one of their  restaurant locations and you can tell us your experience. Speaking of combining passions and interests with your sweetheart, I am happy to announce that Jade Collins of Columbus, Georgia won October’s giveaway– a copy of our first record, The Surveil Project. Congratulations Jade! Don’t forget to enter this month’s giveaway– a set of 52 Great Cheap Dates by Lynn Gordon. You can enter by subscribing to my blog and commenting on your favorite post.

I hope you enjoy Gina’s Chedder and Herb Biscuits!! When you’re through crying, shoot me a comment and we can revel in one another’s dining euphoria! HA!
