Saturday night carpet picnic is an honored tradition at my house. I look so forward to it that I start planning it on Thursday. We Beasleys take our Sabbath rest seriously around here so once the final dishwasher load is washed on Saturday afternoon, we eat on paper with plastic utensils until Sunday after sundown. Mama doesn’t want to have to do a darn thing… especially dishes. Our carpet picnics don’t look quite as romantic as this one…. with the Micky mouse sippy cups and baby wipes lying around and all…. but that doesn’t mean they are any less enjoyable.

If you’re thinking about having your own carpet picnic this weekend, here’s are a few things you might need.

  • blanket or sheet
  • fresh sushi {or a ready-to-serve Rotisserie chicken}
  • Corn tortilla chips and dip {or humus}
  • cheddar cheese block
  • fresh berries or melon
  • chilled wine and beer
  • something sweet {we like Newman O’s– a “healthy”-er version of Oreo cookies}
  • DVD rental

This is a fun and easy way to switch things up on the weekends. Less prep, less clean-up, happy Mama, happy family. I hope you’ll give it a try. If you do, let me know how everyone enjoys it.

Do you have any weekend traditions?
