What is a Great Marriage?

I have a good marriage.
No disclaimers. No excuses. No “buts.” I love my husband and he loves me, and our marriage is that good. So good, in fact, that I have begun to wonder: If this is a good marriage, what would it be like to have a great marriage? Who do I know that can say, “We have a GREAT marriage?” that would be willing to share the goods on just how their good marriage went from good to great? I can assume that the laughter is loud, the dates are long, the conversation is glowing, and the sex is good. And yet, I have been challenged lately to push past all that goodness to discover greatness in my marriage.
Part of this pursuit has led to pick up a monthly writing assignment at startmarriageright.com. When the site administrators recently invited me to blow the dust off of my contributor status, I welcomed the offer as an opportunity to ponder the question: “What is a great marriage?” My first post back was inspired, surprisingly enough, by a scene from our dating days.
I will be back at Start Marriage Right each month exploring my personal marriage quest more deeply. I would love for you to join me on the journey. You can start by answering the question, “What is a great marriage?”
